I recently added a new Cruise Log section on my website to keep all my lovely readers updated and it got me thinking about my first cruise and thought it might be a nice idea to share with you how my passion for cruising began. I embarked on my first cruise shortly after my 18th Birthday back in 2009 and since then I haven’t looked … Continue reading My journey to cruising
I’ve been teasing it for a while, and here it is…! Since Christmas ended, I have been craving all things ginger…ginger cake, ginger biscuits, even ginger tea!! Now, ginger is good for you and can do wonders for your health and digestion. Perhaps this may not be the case when cake is involved…but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! I find something very … Continue reading A ginger delight
I don’t need much excuse to bake, but pancakes is something I always neglect to do. So this year I am determined to have pancakes on Pancake Day, no matter what! I always find pancakes so satisfying…you can do so many variations they never get boring! I love the traditional lemon and sugar topping, but why not spice it up a little with some fresh … Continue reading It’s Pancake Day!
The gloom of January has now passed and we welcome February with renewed vigour…or try to at least! The evenings are (slowly) getting lighter and there is an essence of Spring in the air, even if the UK is currently experiencing a deep freeze! But what better way to welcome a new month in than with a cruise! I could quite literately live on a … Continue reading Roll Call! All aboard P&O Oceana!
Today is Time to Talk Day 2018, an initiative pioneered by Time to Change, a UK based organisation who are creating a growing social movement which aims to change how we all think and act about mental health. I still find it hard to believe, but even now their are too many people made to feel ashamed or isolated because they have a mental health problem. Time to Change has set out to make a difference. They believe this is the generation for change and by joining together, we can make sure that more people are open to talking and listening about mental health problems than ever before. This is where Time to Talk day was born – a day to demonstrate how it doesn’t need to be difficult to have a conversation about mental health and showing that we can all talk about this subject anywhere.
If I’m looking for something to cheer me up then I find sitting down with a slice of cake and a hot brew is always a good place to start, especially if I’ve just made it myself. Fresh cake never lasts long in our house! I don’t need much excuse for cake, but with Time to Talk Day 2018 taking place on the 1st February, I thought what better recipe to share than a ‘pick me up’ classic and hopefully help start a few conversations about mental health!
A topic close to my heart is accessibility and inclusion for everyone. From a young age I have been surrounded by children and young adults who have various special educational needs and disabilities. For several years my family and I have been apart of our local shared care network, providing rest breaks for parents and their children with disabilities, whilst also running an inclusive pre-school which … Continue reading Accessibility at Sea
What better way to welcome you on my new venture than with cake? The last few years I have lost myself in the world of work and academia and my baking passion has sadly been neglected. A series of events over the past 12 months has made me realise that there is more to life than work and that you really have to ensure you … Continue reading Welcome to The Cruising Baker
